Job Description:
DescriptionOur growing WTR practice is looking for strong
construction engineering candidates interested in working on some
of the most exciting and challenging capital programs in
northeastern Illinois. We have immediate openings on the City of
Chicago's Ancillary Sewer Program, the City of Joliet's Water Main
Replacement Program and the DuPage Water Commission's Waterlink
Water Transmission Main Program. Each of these programs are unique
and present opportunities to step into leadership roles at Burns &
McDonnell. The Ancillary Sewer Program involves providing the City
with construction program management as well as construction
engineering oversight of individual projects. Each of these
projects tend to be small in nature but extremely complex and must
be completed in short order to allow for larger sewer rehab
projects to be initiated by the City. The Water Main Replacement
Program also involves providing construction program management and
construction engineering of multiple projects each construction
season. This program is an extension of Joliet's Alternative Water
Source Program to switch from groundwater wells to Lake Michigan as
their drinking water source. Finally, Waterlink Water Transmission
Main Program will provide the same services as the other as a part
of bringing Lake Michigan drinking water to the communities of
Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville.Responsibilities
- Lead civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through
design completion for project needs and requirements that are set
forth by the project managers.
- Prepare civil equipment: packaged equipment and construction
specifications and data sheets, Request's for Qualifications
(RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase
recommendations.
- Review civil vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers,
clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget
staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for
effective management of change orders.
- Applies expert knowledge of commonly used civil concepts,
practices, codes and procedures within the civil engineering
services industry. Compiles studies and reports. Writes
specifications.
- Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects,
find's/develops non-standard design solutions.
- Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects
and project related data as required by the project managers to
verify design compliance with project, client, and industry
standards, including constructability.
- Quality review the construction administration including
coordination with field personnel to resolve design related
installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of
materials.
- Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or
calculations for public and private clients.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry
publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers
and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible
for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are
met.
- Participate sales and marketing efforts and identify, lead and
manage key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification
statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial
performance.
- Prepare, present and manage project budgets and cost estimates.
Report project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the civil
engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced
engineers.
- Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
- Responsible for effective communication with other engineering
disciplines.
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety
policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an
ABET accredited program and 7 years civil engineering experience.
EPC project experience preferred.
- Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from
an ABET accredited program and successful completion of
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years civil engineering
experience. EPC project experience preferred.
- Master Degree in Civil Engineering and 6 years civil
engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and
procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM
(Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or
hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large
projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead
execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work
methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving
environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building,
collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering
documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
Preferred.Compensation$140,000.00-185,000.00 Annually. The expected
compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance
with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range
for this position is based on a number of factors, including but
not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work
experience and work location. The total annual compensation package
will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our
discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.BenefitsOur
