Job Summary
The Database Administrator will report to and work under the
guidance and supervision of the CIO and Director of Infrastructure.
The individual will be responsible for installation, configuration,
documentation, maintenance, performance tuning, monitoring and
upgrades of database systems. The individual will work closely with
development team members and technical operations to ensure optimal
performance and high availability. The role will also assist in
authorizing and controlling the release of new database systems,
and acting as a resource for quality control as well as final
testing. The database Administrator will develop and maintain
standards and compliance guidelines for the implementation of
processes, procedures, and databases to ensure only productive,
efficient applications are deployed. The database Administrator
will be part of an on-call rotation and provide after hour support
when required to resolve production problems, acting as a point of
contact for database related technical support.
Typical Duties
Assists with implementation and modification of physical data
models to create physical data structures.
Design complex databases, tables, stored procedures, views,
triggers and other database objects
Assists with installation, configuration and deployment of software
programs and patches to ensure software tools are maintained to
meet office requirements.
Assists with database management system support activities to
ensure the effective storage and retrieval of data.
Supports the utilization of database management system software and
tools to monitor performance.
Design and build highly available SQL solutions, making use of log
shipping, mirroring and Always On technologies
Collaboration with the development team to maintain test, staging,
production databases and the development of operations procedures
for database management
Experience with Replication, Clustering, Always On and other HA
architectures
Monitors database performance metrics to identify issues and to
assist with fixes for improving efficiencies.
Sets up and deploys database management scripts and jobs to ensure
efficient database operations and office continuity.
Work closely with application development project teams to ensure
optimal application performance
Assists with basic data analysis to identify data anomalies and
suggest potential fixes.
Assists with application reviews to identify needs and to implement
data improvements.
Provides basic analysis of key business processes to assist users
with improving database operations.
Implements data solutions to support applications and ensure
compliance with Cook County Treasurers Office standards.
Provides on-call support and coverage to ensure continuity of
office operations.
Develop and implement data access policies to meet the stringent
needs of data access by the Cook County Treasurer s Office.
Writes highly efficient SQL scripts, stored procedures, etc. to
support internal and external facing websites.
Design and develop SSIS packages to provide the data to the various
applications
Design, implement and test database backups and restorations
policies and procedures ensure recovery of data in conformity with
the Cook County Treasurer s office requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Experience in performance tuning of SQL queries, indexes, disk I/O,
memory and CPU.
Experience with SSIS and ETL procedures and methodologies.
Experience working in a clustered environment.
Strong working knowledge of interoperability between multiple
hardware and software environments.
Be able to learn the current database systems fast in order to
function in the supporting role
Ability to write complex stored procedures and SQL queries, along
with other SQL Server admin skills.
Knowledge in data management technologies and methodologies.
Familiarity with managing SQL databases in a virtualized
environment.
Work well as a team but also self-motivated.
Good documentation and communication skills.
Experience with SQL reporting services and SharePoint
integration.
Troubleshooting teir3 database support issues.
Ability to interact with multiple teams at various levels.
Experience in SSAS, VB.Net, C#, SQL, Batch Programming, C++ is also
preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years experience functioning as SQL database administrator in a
SQL 2012 and newer environment..
Strong technical skills with installation, configuration,
administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of SQL Server 2012
and newer
Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field
