The digital services are based on to be improved data and process models and will be provided for all our customers in the US, Canada, and LATAM.ROLE SUMMARYThe Backend Developer, with a strong understanding of Product Information Management (PIM), plays a crucial role in USG's digital transformation by designing and delivering services for USG's Product Information Ecosystem. This includes managing, maintaining and improving the PIM System while mastering data flows between systems that consume or produce product information. They collaborate closely with the Tech Lead and frontend developers to ensure smooth data flow and seamless integration between enterprise systems like ERP and CRM, frontend applications and product platforms, enhancing the overall product information ecosystems and its solution design. Additionally, they function as Data Engineers to implement data reports, set up databases, and define data models, ensuring a robust data architecture that supports the ecosystem's needs. Their efforts are vital in creating a secure, reliable, and efficient digital ecosystem that enhances customer experience.USG offers a hybrid workplace. The office location is Chicago, IL. Minimal travel may be required.DEFINITION OF THE TEAMThe Product Data and Information Publishing / PIM team works in an agile environment, guided by a Product Owner and a Tech Lead. Each member of the team has a specific role to play, but they all share a common goal of delivering industry-leading digital solutions to our customers.The Product Data and Information Publishing / PIM team is effective because of its ability to work collaboratively and take ownership of its deliverables. It operates within a product-platform model that emphasizes cross-functional collaboration and end-to-end ownership of deliverables. This model leverages the diverse skill sets of team members and fosters innovation, agility, and accountability.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • PIM System Management: Manage, maintain, and optimize the company's PIM system through configurations, low-coding and development work to ensure high performance and reliability.
  • Platform development: Develop and maintain backend platforms that facilitate the integration of PIM data with ERP, CRM, and other internal and external systems that consume or produce product data.
  • Data integration: Design, implement, and manage APIs for the PIM software and data pipelines to ensure seamless data flow between backend systems and frontend applications.
  • Collaboration and coordination: Work closely with the Tech Lead and frontend developers to ensure smooth integration and data consistency across the platform.
  • Data management: Manage and improve the Product Information Data Model and ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of data being transferred between systems.
  • Problem solving: Troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues, ensuring minimal disruption to data flow and system operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, integration processes, APIs, and system configurations.
  • Data Engineering Responsibilities: Implement data reports, set up databases, and define data models, ensuring a robust data architecture that supports the platform's needs.
  • Security: Implement security best practices to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance.KEY QUALIFICATIONSEducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.Required Skills
  • 5+ years of experience developing leading-edge online applications.
  • Proficiency in backend programming runtime and languages such as Node.js, Python, etc.
  • Experience with Informatica P360 software.
  • Understanding of web technologies including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Proficiency in data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Apache Kafka) and middleware/API solutions e.g., WebMethods, Azure API gateway.
  • Experience with PIM solutions and business processes (e.g. process flows and data standards) and technologies (e.g. Informatica).
  • Experience with database management systems such as SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and data integration pipelines.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools.
  • Understanding of system architecture principles and experience in designing scalable, maintainable backend systems.
  • Ability to ensure quality assurance by completing code (peer) reviews and doing unit testing as well as providing constructive feedback to ensure coding standards and best practices are followed.
  • Understanding of Agile practices, techniques and ways of working.Preferred Skills
  • Experience as a developer on an agile cross-functional team.
  • Familiarity with microservices and modular programming to enhance reusability.
