they admire and respect.About the roleThe Senior Development
Officer, Individual Giving is an experienced, independent and
entrepreneurial development professional with the ability to
oversee and manage complex moves management and stewardship
strategies for a portfolio of high-potential prospects. A signature
project is managing the Advisors, a group of mid-tier major gift
prospects who give annually and serve as thought partners to the
Museum. Along with the Advisors, the Senior Development Officer
will identify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of existing and
potential major gift and planned giving donors while building
successful relationships and increasing annual support for the
institution. This position will utilize moves management
principles, including prospect identification, and develop
effective stewardship and solicitation strategies with a keen focus
on pipeline cultivation and aligning donors with institutional
priorities that include advancing our programmatic priorities and
initiatives.Responsibilities:
- Under the leadership of the Director, Individual Giving and
Major Gifts, develop and implement rigorous revenue strategies and
schedules for fundraising from major gift prospects and donors and
Advisors, with a focus on gifts of $25,000 or greater.
- Partner closely with high-potential committees and volunteer
solicitors on strategy-setting and execution of solicitations.
- Plan and execute on cultivation and stewardship events
throughout the year, often on evenings or weekends.
- In partnership with the Director, Individual Giving, set and
monitor goals and metrics for their own portfolio as well as the
Development Officer and Associate Development Officer.Portfolio and
Donor Management
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects capable of
making $25,000+ gifts for major gifts and the Brooklyn Museum's
Board of Advisors.
- For each prospect and donor in the portfolio, develop a
customized moves-management strategy and schedule that includes
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; execute on the
strategy.
- Oversee the Advisors program including three annual meetings,
co-chair engagement efforts, as well as bespoke engagement for
Advisors with the greatest near- and long-term capacity for impact
at the Museum.
- Develop customized briefing documents, solicitation materials,
proposals, correspondence, and gift acknowledgements and oversee
their successful implementation.Leadership and Museum Engagement
- Manage and mentor a Development Officer, who runs the Museum's
patron programs, with contributions typically ranging from $2,500
to $25,000.
- Be deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the Museum's
mission, vision, and strategic plan, as well as permanent
collections, special exhibitions, and education and public
programs; focus fundraising efforts on exhibitions, as well as
education, conservation, sustainability and general
operations.
- Collaborate across the Individual Giving team, and with other
Museum departments (Director's Office, Curatorial, Education and
Conservation), outside consultants, and volunteers (e.g., Committee
and Board Members) to actively engage donors and exceed annual
fundraising goals.
- Regularly attend Museum-wide and art world events during the
week and occasionally on the weekends.Qualifications:
- Minimum of eight years' experience in fundraising, with a
strong preference for experience with patron programs and major
gifts.
- Experience cultivating relationships with a wide range of
individuals from a variety of different demographics.
- Strong time management skills, the ability to handle multiple
tasks, adhere to deadlines and work independently and as part of a
team.
- Ability and interest to think creatively and strategically
about furthering impactful relationships.
- Experience managing team members, along with volunteer
leadership and committees.
- Competent in the planning and implementation of multiple
concurrent projects and events.
- Ability and interest in maintaining a thorough working
knowledge of the Museum's strategic plan, mission, and vision-as
well as the permanent collection, education offerings and public
