the management of all areas of front-line library Access Services
at the John M. Flaxman Library, including: circulation,
interlibrary loan, course reserves, copyright clearance, basic
reference, facilities access, and general Collections Management.
Collaborates with colleagues throughout the library to enable a
positive library experience for all SAIC students and faculty.
Responsible for evening and weekend supervision and closing

application.Responsibilities:
- Night and weekend hours are required: Responsible for opening
and/or closing the library punctually on assigned days.
- Assists in the management of all areas of Access Services,
providing fast, accurate transactions in a friendly, courteous, and
professional manner, respecting the confidentiality of records for
all customers.
- Models exemplary customer service, building positive
relationships with students, faculty, and other library visitors to
understand and meet their library access needs.
- Assists library users in person, over the phone, by mail, or
e-mail, consistently modeling high standards for customer service
that contribute to a welcoming atmosphere.
- Assists with basic reference services and visitor assistance as
needed, demonstrating engagement with the educational mission of
the School.
- Provides all circulation services to patrons, including
management of course reserve services and interlibrary services via
OCLC.
- Works closely with the Head of Research + Access Services
Librarian to formulate and review Access Services procedures and
practices.
- Understands and applies the principles of fair use as they
pertain to interlibrary loan and reserves. Assists with copyright
clearance as needed.
- Assists in the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating a
large team of student workers.
- During evening hours, assumes responsibility for supervision of
Student Workers.
- Compiles statistical reports, maintains access to facilities
and equipment, and ensures the general appearance of public
facilities and equipment.
- Performs other duties and special projects as
assigned.Qualifications and SkillsRequired:
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Commitment to the educational mission of the School and respect
for all members of the campus community.
- Team-oriented management style.
- Understanding of library resource sharing, copyright, and
intellectual property issues.
- Proficiency using integrated library systems (ILS) e.g.
Alma/PrimoVE, OCLC, and/or other systems commonly employed in
library access services.Preferred:
- At least 2 years work experience in an academic library,
especially at a school of art or design.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience working within a large-scale library
consortium.
- Degree(s) in the visual arts, architecture, or design.UNION:
